Reverse Osmosis defined:
Osmosis is the natural movement of water from an area of low concentration of impurities to an area of high concentration of impurities, through a semi-permeable membrane, in order to balance the concentration on both sides.
We apply pressure to do the opposite: Water is pushed through a semi-permeable membrane from the high impurity side to the low impurity side, leaving contaminants behind and producing clean water.
Reverse osmosis is a filtration system that thoroughly reduces water impurities. It works by applying high pressure to the water, forcing it through a semi-permeable membrane, which consists of carbon and sediment filters. This pressure helps retain impurities and other unwanted molecules, while allowing only clean water molecules to pass through.
Some of the elements retained by the membrane—and therefore removed from your water—include: salt, fluoride, chlorine, organic matter, particulate matter (suspended particles like dust, mold spores, ash, vehicle emissions, among others), PFAS (synthetic chemicals that, when accumulated in the body, pose health risks), and more.
